How to play

Slide, meet, merge

Swipe, use the arrow keys or press a direction button to slide every tile. Two equal tiles meeting along that direction merge into one double-sized tile. A tile can merge only once in a move: four 2s become two 4s, rather than one 8.

Make room for the next tile

Each move that changes the board adds a new 2 or 4. Merges add their resulting value to your score. Reach 2048 to win, then choose Keep playing if you want a bigger number. The run ends when no slide or merge is possible.

Strategy

Give your biggest tile a home

Keep a large tile in one corner and arrange smaller values beside it. Moving toward that corner helps preserve a useful order; a move away may strand your largest tile between newcomers.

Space before size

Before taking an attractive merge, check where the next pair will meet. A few empty cells give you choices. Filling the board with mismatched values is a more common trap than simply failing to spot a big merge.

About the game

A small board with a long reach

Gabriele Cirulli’s original 2048 project credits earlier number puzzles including 1024, Saming’s 2048 and Threes. This version keeps the familiar four-by-four sliding rules, with touch controls and an optional continuation after the first 2048 tile.
