Getting your game ready…

How to play

Choose your fleet

Choose Harbour, Channel or Cove to set your four boats on the eight-by-eight Fleet board. Every preset has boats of lengths four, three, three and two in valid horizontal or vertical positions. Inspect the arrangement, then press Start to lock it for this game.

Choose one target

Switch to Targets to choose a square on the computer’s hidden fleet. A miss, hit or sunk marker records the result. You and the computer alternate one shot each; a hit does not give an extra shot. A square already targeted cannot be used again.

Sink the whole fleet

A boat sinks when all its squares have been hit. Win by sinking all four opposing boats before the computer sinks yours. Fleet and Targets show different information, so check the view before selecting a square. The boat positions stay fixed once shooting begins.

Strategy

Follow a hit

After finding a boat, try neighbouring squares along a row or column to establish its direction. Continue along that line until the boat sinks or a miss rules out an end. Touching boats are allowed, so an adjacent hit is not always part of the same boat.

Use your misses

A miss is useful information: that square holds no part of a boat. Compare gaps large enough for the remaining boat lengths instead of scattering every shot. Once a boat sinks, count which lengths still need to be found.

About the game

A compact original fleet

This version uses an eight-by-eight board and four boats, keeping one board large enough to inspect on a phone. The original wooden boats and plain hit markers carry the game; Fleet and Targets separate your arrangement from the search for the computer’s boats.
