How to play

Fill a run to its total

Enter digits from one to nine in the open cells. A clue gives the total for a consecutive horizontal or vertical run. Add the entries in that run to reach the clue exactly, without repeating a digit within it.

Use both directions

An open cell usually belongs to an across run and a down run. Its digit must work for both totals. Dark clue cells divide the runs; they are not places to enter an answer. Keep the two directions separate when reading their clue marks.

Write an answer or a note

Choose a white cell, then enter 1–9. Notes keeps candidates on a blank cell; Erase clears it. The upper-right clue triangle gives the across sum, and the lower-left gives the down sum. Undo reverses a change; Restart clears the current board. Six fixed puzzles share the six-by-six tile layout.

Strategy

Find the small combination

Begin with a short run or a total that allows few sets of digits. Keep the possible set in mind before assigning its order. Knowing a run uses one and three does not yet tell you which cell receives each digit.

Let the crossing decide

Compare a cell’s across and down possibilities. A digit excluded by either run cannot go there. After confirming an entry, subtract it from both totals and reconsider the remaining cells, remembering the digits already used.

About the game

Addition with crossings

Kakuro combines addition with shared cells: a digit chosen for one run also changes another. Cream answers and dark clue cells keep their roles distinct. Completed puzzles and your selection are remembered; unfinished answers and notes are not. There is no timer or points target.
