Vine Swing

Getting your game ready…

How to play

Hold to swing, let go to fly

Touch and hold the gorge, hold the mouse button or hold Space, and the monkey grabs the vine knot marked with a turquoise ring: the nearest one above it and within reach. Keep holding to swing. Let go and the monkey flies on with all the speed it carried. Hold again in the air and it catches the next knot as soon as one comes within reach.

Go as far as you can

Your score is the distance travelled, in metres, with a post in the river every 50 m and a flag at your best distance. The run ends if the monkey drops into the river at the bottom of the gorge or touches a spiky thorn pod. Springy leaves on the riverbank bounce you back up, but only two drops in a row: grab a vine before the third, or that leaf gives way. Further along, the vines spread apart, the leaves thin out and more thorns appear. P or the Pause button stops play.

Strategy

Let go on the way up

The best moment to let go is just after the bottom of a swing, while the monkey is rising and moving forward. Too early and it drops toward the river; too late and it goes up and back. Letting go while rising forward at speed also gives a small extra push, which you can spot by the golden trail.

Choose your rope length

The rope is as long as the distance to the knot when you grab it. Catching a high knot from far below gives a long, deep swing that can dip into the brambles by the river. Waiting until you are closer gives a short, quick swing. Holding through the bottom of a swing pumps in a little extra speed when you need a bigger arc.

About the game

A jungle take on the grapple swing

Hold-to-grab, release-to-fly swinging was made popular on phones by Madbox’s Stickman Hook in 2018. Vine Swing puts that idea in an endless jungle gorge with a monkey, springy leaves and thorn pods. Every run builds a fresh gorge that starts gently and gets harder the further you go.
